«My dear Med25,
I am grateful to have lived this blessed journey. I begin by thanking all the people involved in this project, because it has left a deep imprint on my heart. Participating in this school of peace was exactly what I needed during this difficult period. It gave me hope and confidence in humanity.
Our group created a magnificent mosaic. Each of us was a small fragment with its own unique shape, but together we fit perfectly, forming a luminous and complete image. Looking at our photos, I see love, a family, light, and a future.
The most beautiful gift was the people I met, who allowed me to «touch» all the shores of our sea. The fact that we came from different countries and backgrounds enriched everything. I really enjoyed the moments when we shared our stories. We are a testament to the vastness of our region, and at the same time to the many characteristics we have in common.
We could easily understand each other because our hearts were open and welcoming. Each other’s stories were precious to me, and I was surprised to see us sharing the deepest parts of ourselves after just one week.
Life on the boat was sometimes a challenge, but in any situation, we looked out for each other, trying to maintain a positive atmosphere and a contagious smile. At certain moments, I really felt that we were one, eager for interaction and carrying this phrase: «sharing is loving.».
I think back to how connected we were, sharing tiny spaces with strangers and living on a boat that took us out of our comfort zone.
After two weeks, we spoke the same language of love; we had created our own way of communicating in several languages. Human values were at the center: kindness and respect guided us.
This experience led me to reflect on my own identity. I am made up of the people I have met, and my identity will never be fixed, but always in motion. This can only happen if we are not afraid to let the other enter into us.
I was moved almost every day, because this deep exchange of love was tangible, and the beauty of nature formed a perfect backdrop. The sea was sometimes our greatest enemy, but also our best friend. This sea taught me another way of life. The Mediterranean is part of us and it connected all our countries. It brought us together, and with the boat it became our home.
I hope to witness a change of course: that this sea of death becomes a sea of life. The «Bel Espoir» gave me the courage to dream of a generation capable of living in peace despite different beliefs, religions, and traditions. God made us different to create a richer human mosaic, and I will never forget how beautiful we are together.
Our voices came from distant lands, but they have become one choir singing and praying for the same hope. We will bring peace, and I will never tire of sharing this testimony of Mediterranean love.
I miss this family so much, but every time I look at the sea, I remember that you all touch this same water, and that love can still win, over and over again.»
